While we are saddened by their decision to leave, we respect the unique circumstances and considerations that lead to their decision. As a consortium, we have always valued the diverse needs and priorities of our member libraries, and we understand that changes in organizational strategies and goals can lead to decisions like these.
The Fairfield Public Library has been an integral part of PALS Plus since 2010, contributing significantly to our shared mission of providing outstanding library services to our communities. Their departure will undoubtedly be felt, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

We understand you may have questions regarding the Fairfield Public Library’s withdrawal from PALS Plus. Below, you’ll find answers to some common questions. This FAQ will be updated as new questions arise.
When is Fairfield Public Library leaving PALS Plus?
Fairfield Public Library will be leaving PALS Plus effective August 1, 2024.
Can I still borrow books from Fairfield Public Library after August 1, 2024?
Yes, but you will need to be registered as an Open Borrowing patron at the Fairfield Public Library after August 1, 2024. The Open Borrowing program allows for in-person borrowing of materials from participating libraries. See openborrowing.org to learn more.
Will my Fairfield Public Library card still work at PALS Plus libraries?
Yes, your Fairfield Public Library card will continue to work at PALS Plus libraries. All Fairfield Public Library patron accounts will be converted to Open Borrowing with an expiration date of December 31, 2024. After that date, you will need to be renewed or registered as an Open Borrowing patron at PALS Plus libraries. Additionally, after December 31, 2024, inactive accounts will be purged.
What happens to books I currently have checked out from Fairfield or other PALS Plus libraries?
Any materials you have borrowed from PALS Plus libraries will be treated as a normal loan and should be returned to Fairfield Public Library or any other PALS Plus library.
How do I return books borrowed from Fairfield or other PALS Plus libraries?
You can return books borrowed from Fairfield or other PALS Plus libraries to Fairfield Public Library or any other PALS Plus library. The items will be sent back to their home library.
Can I still place holds on items from the Fairfield Public Library?
Starting July 9, 2024, you will no longer be able to place holds on items owned by Fairfield Public Library unless you are a patron of the Fairfield Public Library.
Can I still place holds on items from other PALS Plus libraries if I’m a Fairfield Public Library patron?
Starting July 9, 2024, you will no longer be able to place holds on items owned by other PALS Plus libraries. You will, however, be able to place holds on items owned by the Fairfield Public Library
